Deju svētki_Dance celebration
RESEARCH ROOM (exhibition) in collaboration with "Dr. Guislain Museum", Gent, Belgium
This project invited me to work on the topic of human senses and find a way to make it visible. I chose to go into the research of culture and prove that the culture I come from has a strong tradition that illustrates this topic very well - traditional dance celebration.
The work I made contained a video projection that invites the audience to look at the dance celebration in Latvia, a collection of old photos from people who have participated, and written memories from different generations who describe the feeling of being part of this event.
The aim of this project was to question how human senses can connect people, generations and create a cultural heritage?
How can the sense of touch and hearing lead thousands of people to a moving, performative dancing image?

This book shows how a group of students tried to create a trend book for 2022 and through this action ask the viewers how absurd the idea of a trend can be. While observing, interviewing, and analyzing the final result turned out more like an experience to show the research process of creating it than showing the actual book itself.

Why do we follow trends?
How important in a trend book is a good, reasonable and believable story?

1940 long movie
A short film in collaboration with Filmtheater Lumiere, Maastricht, The Netherlands
Home has the ability to own a feeling. In order to catch and keep it, I had to define the word home and the different aspects of it - space, people, country, and movement of coming and going. How does it feel to come back home to your heart? This film tells you how dance and rituals of paganism can redefine the meaning of home.
An object. Made in collaboration with the city of Genk, Belgium, and the organization Vonk Ateliers.
Researching how a city can be represented from a perspective of an object. For this project, I looked to the city of Genk from its historical background of the coal-mine industry. My idea was to create an object that can represent it. As a final result, I knitted two long, black arms from different material wool to give it a more contrasting and rougher texture. These arms represent coal miners' hands, long tunnels, historical journey and give an experience for people to put on the arms to imagine themselves in those times when the city of Genk run the coal miners industry.
How can I present a city from an artistic perspective?
How did the coal mine industry influence the city of Genk?
How can the technique of knitting symbolize coal mines?
